Freelance Project Coordinator (German-speaking) - 10 hours per week
As a project coordinator at ecls translations, you’ll take ownership over the successful delivery of translation and review projects.
You’ll prioritise the focus on fostering strong relationships with clients and colleagues, and will have a passion for delivering high-quality translations to support our customers with their desired outcomes.
You love tasks involving detail and organisation, and thrive in an environment where you’re able to take initiative, problem solve and contribute your ideas to actively shape the company’s development.
Your mission
In the first two weeks, you’ll be given detailed training on the software, systems and processes we use, along with an introduction to our clients in the technical and marketing sectors and our team of linguists.
As project coordinator at ecls, you’ll then be preparing and sending quotes (where required), accepting, logging and scheduling language projects and placing these with the best-suited members of our team. You’ll have oversight over the progress of projects and ensure timely delivery of high-quality translations to our clients.

You speak fluent German and have at least 1 year of experience in a similar position in the translation industry. You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment with various technologies, and like working with numbers. You also have strong written and verbal communication skills and effective time management.

Freelance Business Development Consultant (German-speaking) - half day per week, flexible hours
As a Business Development Consultant at ecls translations, you’ll take ownership over identifying opportunities in our target markets and engaging with potential B2B customers. You’ll prioritise the focus on building relationships and nurturing contacts, and will have a passion for delivering quality customer service. You’re positive and pro-active and thrive in an environment where you’re able to make an impact as a key member of the team.
Your mission
Your main focus will be on driving the business forward, generating new business via various channels, including LinkedIn, in-person events, telephone and email, and expertly developing relationships with potential B2B customers.
Your main tasks will consist of:
- Contacting potential new clients requiring translation support from German and French into English in the technology, manufacturing and marketing sectors (and identifying key decision makers).
- Gathering information regarding clients’ current challenges, goals and needs to help us tailor our services and add maximum value.
- Attending client industry events as well as translation industry events and further networking opportunities.
- Creating proposals for new business, presenting to potential clients and highlighting the benefits and value.
- Negotiating and reaching agreement on proposals, ensuring customer satisfaction and maintaining long-term relationships.
- Staying updated with industry trends, competitors and market conditions to effectively position our services.

In-house Project Coordinator / Linguist (German into English) - 30 hours per week
As a project coordinator / linguist at ecls translations, you’ll take ownership over the successful delivery of translation and review projects. You’ll prioritise the focus on fostering strong relationships with clients and colleagues, and will have a passion for delivering high-quality translations to support our customers with their desired outcomes. You love tasks involving detail and organisation, and thrive in an environment where you’re able to problem solve, contribute your ideas and actively shape the company’s development.
Your mission
Within the first two months, you will get to know our client accounts and team members, processes and systems. We’ll provide you with detailed training and development in the areas of project coordination, translation and proofreading for our technical and marketing clients. Longer term, you’ll be given the opportunity to develop in line with your personal and professional goals as part of a growing team of passionate linguists.
As project coordinator (which accounts for around 20% of the role), you’ll be preparing and sending quotes, accepting, logging and scheduling translation projects and placing these with the best-suited members of our team. As linguist (which accounts for the further 80% of the role), you’ll be translating, post-editing and reviewing German into English texts in the fields of manufacturing, marketing, technology and entertainment. You’ll have a keen eye for detail, checking for accuracy, correct meaning, terminology and adherence to reference material as well as providing feedback to our translation team. You’ll also be tasked with adapting text from US English into UK English in the fields of technology and HR.

You should apply if
You’re positive and pro-active with a passion for detail and customer service. You have either a Master’s degree in Translation Studies, a degree in another specialisation plus 2 years’ experience in translation, or 5 years’ experience in professional translation.
You enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, have experience translating and proofreading German into English texts in the technical and marketing fields and like working with numbers. You also have strong written and communication skills and effective time management.
If you have experience translating and proofreading texts from French into English in the technical and marketing fields, client-facing experience, and knowledge of CAT tools (such as Studio, XTM and Phrase), that would be a bonus.

Salary: £23,000–£26,000 per annum (pro rata) depending on experience.
